11 Journaling Prompts for Self Growth

In light of this issue’s theme of sustainability, we’re talking sustainable self care habits. Today’s featured habit is journaling, specifically focused on self growth. Personally, I love journaling but always have a harder time getting into the writing flow when I come up with the prompt myself so I’m always saving and collecting prompt ideas when I see them! The ones featured are a few that I’ve used and found helpful with working on self-reflection in the past but feel free to modify to best fit your situation (I do that all the time – that’s where many of these actually came from!).

It’s been proven that self growth can really only occur when you confront past experiences and how they’ve impacted you as well as evaluate where you are now emotionally. Hopefully these prompts will allow you to reflect on these experiences and give some better insight to how you might want to focus your growth as well as some goal ideas!

  1. What do you need to forgive yourself for?

  2. Is there someone in your life who makes you act like someone else (this could be in a positive or negative way)? Why?

  3. Whose approval do you crave the most? Why?

  4. What are positive ways you’ve changed over the past year? What about the past five years?

  5. What currently brings you the most joy and happiness?

  6.  What is the one thing you want to change in your life?

  7. What is one thing you wish you were better at?

  8. What are 5 things you love about yourself?

  9. If you’re like me and struggle with self care and taking time for yourself, what tends to be neglected? What are the top reasons you neglect taking care of yourself?

  10. What boundaries do you need to set with others and yourself to prioritize your goals and self care?

  11. Are you where/who you thought you would be when you were a kid? Why or why not?
